Open Question: Would it be hard to get a well-payed job in Graphic Design after schooling?
I want to pursue Graphic Design but honestly, with the economy the way it is I'm worried about finding a job. Heard so many stories about kids going to college for years and not able to find a job or one that they trained for at least. So I am wondering. How has the economy effected the graphic design industry? Would it be very difficult to find a good job after I'm finished with school?

Open Question: My boyfriend is going through his quarter-life crisis. Help?
I have been with my current boyfriend for 1 1/2 years. We are very much in adore and have lived together for 5 months. I am 21 and he is 24. We lived in the city of our dreams and had a lot of friends. Recently I got accepted into a premier Arts college for Graphic design. The problem is, it's in a city 150 miles away from the one we lived in and adore so much. I think it's time we cease bumming off our savings and start a new life in a new city. This is where the problem lies. He has been acting shifty about the move ever since I got accepted. He wants to stay in the old city and hang out with his friends and not work. He says that he doesn't know what he wants but he'll try to move with me. This is the part that's been so difficult for me: he says he'll try to move with me but if it's not perfect then he'll leave and move back to the old city. I am trying everything I can to help him transition that I haven't had time to take care of myself. The thought of losing him makes me anxious and unhappy. When he confronts me about being unhappy he criticizes me and tells me I'm a drama queen. But I can't plan to receive an apartment or anything until I know if he's going to help me. I want to talk to him about every this but I'm afraid he'll make it seem like I'm pestering him and receive mad at me. I just need more of a commitment before I move up there. Do you think this is a fair thing to talk about?

Open Question: XML forms as PDF? Whats an ideal way to digitize redundant paperwork and store to a database?
I want to digitize a company I now oversee and not sure the best way to go about it. My schooling is in graphic/media design so I have some tech knowledge but not enough.
My idea is to have every paperwork accessible in the form of a PDF (with input fields). I want every that inputted data to be collected and sorted at some central storage. I also want to put permissions on who can access what paperwork and/or input fields. The problem now is everyone adding & changing forms at will (every currently regular MS docs). The office is pretty computer illiterate as while so input fields would help them and keep me a lot of time helping them.
every I can think of is creating XML forms as PDF using Adobe LiveCycle. From there, I'm not entirely sure how to receive that information to some type of NAS or server or whatever it is.
Can anyone suggest a route or direction for me? Maybe there are ready made systems that can help me from Dell or somewhere, not sure :-/
The office was last setup with a snap server (an Overland 210). No employee but the former IT person had remote access to the network in the office and every files inside the snap server are MS Office docs, spreadsheets and a backup of the accounting (which is done on Quickbooks).
Could a simple NAS replace the snap server? Say something like HP's home server. Remote access (to files in storage) won't be needed, though it would best nice to have if there was ever a special need.

Open Question: What were your experiences with UNT's Design Communication Department?
I've been working overseas as a teacher for three years, and hold a BA in Asian Studies. I'm currently looking to shift fields into graphic/digital design. I've always kept up art as a background interest (didn't quite have enough credits for the minor in college) and now I want to go back to school to develop my skill to a professional level.
What were your experiences with the program good or bad? And did you feel it helped prepare you for the design job market?

Open Question: What is a good career that fits me?
I am a junior in high school and am looking into my options for after.
some things to consider--
I am very good at math and actually like math. Taking calculus this year, and dual enrollment next year.
Overall I am advanced in class (Cumulative gpa of 3.875) and taking dual enrollment of government and english next year.
Very interested in learning languages, they arrive easy to me.
adore computer stuff, but hate coding.
Possibly considering military.
I really want a higher paying job that will challenge me. I considered something in graphic design, but pay is not great for that.
Basically I am just looking for options to explore at this point. Already explored the veterinary option, since i like animals, but I don't like that type of science. more into chemistry and physics instead of anatomy and physiology.
Any suggestions of careers that might be a good idea to explore?

Resolved Question: Have I been banned by google images?
Today I was searching google images freely, I typed in "oil refineries" looking for a good picture of an oil refinery for a graphic design piece I'm doing only to find out that google images only brings up
"Directory Listing Denied
This Virtual Directory does not allow contents to be listed."
I tried it on safari, same thing, this is not a browser problem with firefox. The only thing I can deduct is that I've been banned by searching for oil refinery pictures(?) or perhaps used too many malicious keywords? Either way it's absolutely ridiculous, not to mention Big Brotherish. I've tried googling answers, although I doubt google would be a credible or reliable source to search for help from at this point. Anyone have an answer? I've posted on google's forum so don't bother directing me to any customer support stuff through google.
I live in the US, and yes I do have gmail and an account, etc. The relax of the website works fine, every but the google images, and I know google images works on other computers (I've asked friends to search). And as far as the porn bit I don't search for porn, even if I did search porn on google images I sincerely doubt I'd be banned, and if google banned people for searching porn in google images I'm willing to bet there would be a lot more people asking the same question as I am.

Open Question: can you major in engineering, be an engineer and take on art on the side?
i want a stable career and want to live a comfortable life, help my family financially, maybe possess a business some day... engineering seems to be a good choice for that ...i do have some interest in computer engineering or electrical engineering (mostly curiosity about how things work ) so i thought one of those too would be best for me BUT heres the thing ...on top of being just okay in math, i also have an interest in drawing and art ( i draw anything thats in a photograph) my family thinks i have talent and it would be a shame to let that go. id like to receive better at it but i dont want to end up a starving artist, i thought about graphic design and advertising but theres just sooooo much competition. now just because i can draw doesnt mean sick do good in graphic design, in fact ive done some research and graphic design has very little to do with actual drawing (it has to do more with the creativity that the artist supposedly has) ...and the way things are going graphic designers are prbly going to end up being the new starving artist from what ive been told (feel free to correct me if im wrong)
i dont want to give up my drawing abilities, but i want to earn a good living
my plan is to major in comp eng. or elec. eng. then open an internet cafe and take care of every the repairs myself and as well as offer my professional services ... then i planned to take a course in web design to make some extra money on the side and once my business is stable enough to hire someone to manage it for me id try to work from home and take up drawing, painting, art as a hobby .....what do you think about it?
does this seem realistic? will i still be able to like drawing and art?
i dont mind the difficult work i have to put into majoring in engineering ...every good things in life require difficult work and dedication... i just dont want to waste the skill i have for drawing ....so yeah please let me know what you think about my situation, any advice that you can offer, any corrections you may want to point out, any info you can give me would be greatly appreciated ...thankyou for your time

Open Question: Why are Macs better than Windows for Graphic Design/Video?
I'm doing a persuasive speech for my oral communications class and I'm trying to convince my school to receive my Macs for the graphic design/video/imaging/animation programs. Currently, my college only has TWO Apple computers and a TON of Dells for our graphic design program. They are so vague and say it's because of a "budget issue". I'm trying to make this speech as realistic as possible. I've contacted the dean, the IT person, and a few instructors and they're every saying "it's a budget issue". I know it's more than that... some people are really against Apples here. How can I convince my school that Apples will pay off and be more beneficial for the afore-mentioned programs?

I was wondering, if this is a good schedule for my senior year of high school next year. I have taken study hall for the past three years along with seven classes, but desire another class for my last year which would bring my total for 8 classes rather than the usual 7.

Astronomy
Spanish 3
English 4
Pre-Cal (plan to take Algebra 2 in the summer, if I can afford it)
Gym/Health 4
Computer Programming

I have already taken graphic design, web design, and computer applications, so I really have no other interesting classes left to pick for computers. Should I consider a class such as psych or should I go for another computer class which will be an easy A for me?

Open Question: Is $995 a fair price for a full page (8.5x11) full color magazine ad?
The magazine is industry specific and has a rate base of about 13,000. It is a free subscription that is mailed out each month. We keep getting positive feedback on our content, but our ad sales aren't enough to continue meriting the cost of printing. My sister is a graphic designer for a big firm in a big city and said our price was outrageous. But we give discounts for commitment customers and those who go ahead and pay rather than establish credit. Most of the time we will design their ad and not even charge for that. I'm very confused as to what the problem is.

Open Question: Help - in need of Laptop suggestions!!!?
Okay.
I need a new laptop.
I adore the mini's but don't think they can handle what I want it to do.
I don't want to go bigger than a 12 inch screen but want it to be at least a 4gb.
I need to be able to download and burn movies and music, play computer games, speedy internet, do office work and hold every of my docs and pictures etc.
I also need it to be esthetically pleasing, not heavy, compact and easy to travel with.
I am having a difficult time finding the inside components I want in an outside shell I want.
I am a PC user, never used a Mac but am so interested and would use it for work graphic design etc. (do this only sometimes, not trained, but would like to be someday) - just not sure if the Mac is needed quite yet and if I would use it to it's full potential.
Also I am in Canada, probably I will make my purchase at Best Buy / Future store.
No price limit really, just want a light, tiny laptop with mega insides!!
My current one is going to spontaneously combust at any moment.
Suggestions??

Open Question: I Need Help Finding The Right Laptop?
Hola.
So I want to buy a laptop, but I'm not really sure about what nice of specs I should look into.
The laptop I use right now, I pretty much use as my home computer. I have every my pictures, music and word documents on it, so I would need something with memory. I also plan on installing Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop Elements, since I'm a graphic design student. And it needs to be compatable with a Wacom tablet, but I'm pretty sure almost every computer is.
For size, right now I'm on a twelve inch, so 10"-15"ish would be nice.
I'm really not particular on the brand, except I would rather not have an hp (Bad experiences. The reason I have to buy a new one).
My price range... I really wouldn't want to spend anymore than $400, but if worst comes to worst I'm willing to pay more..
So if you know of anything, or you know of a good website where I could find something like this it would be much appreciated!
Thanks!!!

Open Question: Help With Finding A Desktop PC?
Okay, I'm looking into maybe buying a desktop pc. Right now I use my laptop for everything, but it's not really cutting it.
I'm not too keen on the technical issue of computers so I was wonder what nice of specs I should be looking for in a computer.
I'm a GRAPHIC DESIGN student so I'll be wanting to install Adobe Photoshop Elements and Illustrator, and whatnot. I'll also need storage, obviously; enough for pictures, music and documents.
What brands you would recommend? Specs? What nice of processor and also maybe where to buy it from.
Any information would be much appreciated.
