Open Question: Girls, would you go out with me?
Just a little bit about me: I'm a 17 y.o. artist and guitarist pursuing a career in filmmaking at The Art Institute. I am a dyslexic, half Native American Leo and I adore art; I paint, sketch, do graphic design and sculpt. I have been in a band for three years as guide guitarist and songwriter. I spend the relax of my free time working on film ideas and writing. I have made four short films and locally released my first solo album(of instrumentals) in April. I'm a very creative and visual person and truly adore the arts. What do you think of me girls? Just curious :)
Oh, please don't think I'm greedy. I'm quite shy and have always had trouble in the dating department. And also, I donated every the proceeds of my album sales to my High School's special education program. I really try not to be greedy.

Open Question: What are ways to get the word out about a talented graphic artist needing a job?
Below are some details, but look http://savejoseph.org for the full story.
I have a pal, Joseph, who's one of those people that everyone wants out in the world doing something creative because he's just plain good at whatever he picks up. In particular, he's a stunning graphic artist. But, he has a family to support and has been stuck at a job making teeth for the last several years. In the next week, he has to pick to either increase his hours and put his art to the side, or risk losing the hours he can work when his boss hires another person full time.
I'm trying to receive the word out to find the right person that can connect him with an artistic, challenging job.
Here's what I'm doing so far:
- I'm blogging about it regularly on my site, a blog which has a readership in the web design world
- I've started a Twitter account, but have not gotten many followers
- I've created a press release and contacted a couple of newspapers, but am really uncertain how to best tackle this.
- I've contacted everyone I know who might know someone who could help
- I'm Twittering myself on a daily basis about the progress of the campaign
- I've hired someone to write a poem about the campaign (sounds odd, but who knows)
- I've hired a virtual assistant in India to write a badly written plea to potential employers (for the humor factor)
- We're submitting his art to various blogs and directories
- Everything that gets posted to Twitter also gets posted to Facebook
- He's submitting resumes to careerbuilder.com and monster.com
Any tips you can give on how to receive the word out, how to build something viral, or how to land a creative job in graphic design, video game art, or even suggest potential job titles that might fit his abilities, that would be awesome.
You can look his work at http://josephcowman.com.

Open Question: Depression: Am I really depressed or am I doing this to myself?
Three years ago I transferred from engineering to graphic design because I was miserable and hated everything about life. I was "diagnosed" with depression and bipolar II. I have been on about 100mg-250mg and 5mg Abilify for the past two years. Still, I have a good couple of days, and then a miserable week.
My question is how do I know if I'm truly chemically depressed, or if I've just been in this down funk for so long that I just want to be that way now?
I hate my work that I produce, but I look at other people in my field and I receive ecstatically excited about design and graphic work. I feel like a failure, I have low energy every the time regardless of sleeping 8hrs regularly, eating healthy, and exercising.
I'm now off the Zoloft and Abilify and my anger is back and I'm still down. But every now and then, I feel very productive, slightly glad, and almost too much energy. (This phase doesn't last long).
I don't know what to, and I'm terrified that it's going to be like this forever and I'm never going to just be able to receive through feeling like I'm worthless and sleepy.

Open Question: Do you think this outfit would look okay? Links included!?
I'm going to be a freshman and was thinking about getting an outfit like this one. I would go with this graphic tee in navy: http://www.abercrombiekids.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10101_10851_682959_-1_12151_12103
with this cardigan over it, unbuttoned, in gray: http://www.ae.com/web/browse/product.jsp?catId=cat1410002&productId=0344_6042
Then I would probably pair it with a pair of skinny jeans and ballet flats.
What do you think? Do you think the "cardigan over graphic tee look"? Or do you think the cardigan detracts from the design on the shirt?
uhh first answer... none of your links work..?

Open Question: If girls wonder why chivalry and romance are gone, then why don't they care about it when they find it?
It just amazes me how many girls care about their careers more than finding someone to spend their life with. Me personally, I'd rather have adore than a good career. I mean yes, I'm working on my degree for graphic design, but I'd much rather have a good lady than a good job. But it seems that girls these days are more worried about their possess careers than having a good relationship. Why is that? I'd like to say its cause im not a good looking guy, but so many people have told me otherwise. I'd like to say its cause I'm a jerk, but how many jerks do you know that still believe that loves more important than anything? So what is it ladies? Why have every of a sudden your career goals become more important than adore? I understand that some girls want to prove their worth, but what if the guy loves taking care of a girl? What if its not about his ego but more about his heart and that he cares enough about a girl to make her life less stressful?

Open Question: 2 year Anniversary with boyfriend ideas?
We used to celebrate each month's anniversary so there's a lot that I've already done like play & sing a tune on guitar for him, got him a digital picture frame, a keyboard bc he had wanted to learn to play, and a bunch of other things. This time around though it's been difficult to think of something because we'll be vacationing during the time we're going to celebrate our 2 year and i think, not sure, but i think he's planning a picnic on the beach at night. so i won't really have a lot of resources available to me bc we're out of town and he's got dinner covered i believe.
so i guess my main option is to receive him a gift, not something that i'll have to order bc it's too short notice. he recently got into bicycling, he loves graphic design - has the latest software, i'm sure, so idk what i could receive him to do with that... no picture book type thing bc i got him the frame with every our pictures. not trying to sound picky lol but i'm just trying to think it through!

Open Question: How to start off in Graphic Design?
I've put aside creativity for a few years now. I was a photography major and had work published in my college magazine and also on display in an art show. I was then accepted into a bigger photo school, but got nervous and backed out. So I went a few years trying to find something else to settle into. Currently I'm taking Nursing prereqs and it couldn't be more wrong for me. I'm not good at science, I put so many hours into it and am lucky if I receive a B on a test.
So I have been thinking a lot about going back to the arts. I'm interested in advertising and would like to someday be part of the team that comes up with the ideas for the ads. Where do you start off is my question? Should I start in Graphic Design, work my way up to Art Director and then maybe to Creative Director, if lucky?
What is the best approach to attain a creative position in an advertising team?
Also, what programs should I use on my mac and is taking classes at the local community college a good start, or do a lot of designers build a portfolio on their possess? Eventually I'd like to go to an art school, but I have nothing to show them at this point in time.
Thanks for your help!

Open Question: Need legal advice on student loan and school liability?
I went to a vocational school for graphic design for about 6 months and upon finding out their "associates" degree doesn't transfer (when they claimed it did) I dropped out. I have two loans one for $12,000 the other for $4,000 and the $12,000 loan has accumulated $9,000 in interest. The school went out of business (for obvious reasons) and had a class action suit against them that was settled (although only for those who completed their degree there). My question is what legal recourse do I have to request a reduction in costs based upon their untrue statements and that they are no longer a school so the degree would have been useless. I am a needy college student and need some help to figure out what I might be able to do, and I am hoping someone out there is just as fed up as I am with "educational" companies screwing over college students like this. Thanks.

Open Question: Can you help me with my Career Choice ?
I have been at a crossroad for awhile on what I wanted to do. I wanted to become a Game Designer, but I was told it would be a waste since making games has become so easy. Anyway I adore to play video games. I have learn to draw, but I don't have prodigy skills so its decent (don't know how to draw people). Haven't sketched anything in years tho, because I wanted to test out the programming side to look if it was for me. It wasn't. Then I did engineering in school and a lot of people said I was pretty decent at building stuff. But I don't have the skills or interest of a engineer, so I figure I should put the drawing and art skills to something useful, and do Graphic Design. Since I haven't been drawing for a long time, I feel like it would be a bad idea to go on with graphic design. I'm in my senior year and I want to make the choice as soon as possible. Any advice would really help.

Open Question: Do I want to be an engineer?
I'm 15 and thinking about what nice of career I want. A few years ago I wanted to be a software designer, it wasn't too difficult but it was just too repetitive for me. Then I started do graphic design (2D and 3D) and it was pretty fun, but the pay is pretty low and there aren't many fields that I can transfer that nice of experience in to.
Now I'm thinking I want to do engineering. I really like math and science classes and I like solving problems creatively. Mechanical engineering appeals to me because I like to know how stuff works.
Can someone with experience in engineering explain what it's like? I don't know much about every the subcategories in engineering. And how much does it pay? Is it the nice of job that takes over your life? I want a job that I like, but I still want free time to do what I want.
I also think my experience with 3D design software could help me with spacial awareness and using things like AutoCAD.

Open Question: LGBT: Whatever happened to...?
"Do whatever makes you glad?" For real. I have been thinking about what I want to be in the future, since I'm a senior in high school. I have been thinking about majoring in Graphic Design, Communications, Political Science, Sociology, etc because they every interest me. Everytime I tell someone "Oh, I want to study ____ in college," their imidiate response is, "You won't make any money," or "You will be working quick food for the relax of your life." Seriously, WTF!? Is anything good enough? Then they go on to tell me, "Become a pharmacist, doctor, engineer..." I'm terrible at math and science. I'm in slower math and science classes. How the hell am I supposed become one of those?
Has "do whatever makes you glad" flown out the window? I think so.
